Dr. Berghman Receives Research Grant

Dr. Luc Berghman is one of three co-principal investigators who have received a grant from the USDA for $315,000. The title of the project is "Mechanism of Salmonella typhimurium Persistence in Cattle" and the other team members are Dr. Andreas Baumler of the College of Medicine and Dr. Garry Adams of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Baumler will lead the team. One of the objectives of the study is to determine immune factors that prevent colonization of the intestines by Salmonella. Although the work will be done in cattle, it will have relevance to poultry and humans as well. Congratulations to Dr. Berghman.
