Dr. Roy Fanguy Retires
After 50 years with the Texas A&M Poultry Science Department, Dr. Roy Fanguy retired on August 31, 2005. Dr. Fanguy earned his BS degree in 1951 from Mississippi State College (now University), his MS degree in 1953 from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University), and his PhD in immunogenetics in 1958 from Texas A&M. He also served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. He was hired by our Department as an Assistant Professor of Immunogenetics in 1958 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1964. He left Texas A&M briefly for a position with the USDA South Central Poultry Research Laboratory in State College, Mississippi from 1965 to 1966. Following his return to Texas A&M, he continued his exceptional teaching and research career. He received the Sigma Xi Research Award, published 95 articles and graduated eleven graduate students. He taught genetics, embryology, commercial broiler production, and introduction to poultry science as well as serving countless students as the academic advisor for the Department. Students and teaching have always been important to Dr. Fanguy and he has made a tremendous contribution to the Department. We wish him well. A reception is planned to honor this big event.(9/29/05)
