Dr. Pillai Receives Food Safety Grant
Dr. Suresh Pillai has been awarded a grant for $127,021 from the National Center for Food Protection and Defense, a component of the US Department of Homeland Security. The project involves using dielectrophoresis to concentrate bacterial endospores from milk and orange juice. This technology will allow the detection of very small, "nano" levels of bacterial contamination in food and environmental samples and the analysis of much smaller sample sizes than previously needed. It will be a major advance in the monitoring and detection of contaminants. Congratulations to Dr. Pillai.
