Poultry Institute 2005
Each year, the Department hosts a group of high school students who are interested in learning more about poultry science and experiencing it firsthand. We call it Poultry Institute and it is financially underwritten by the Harold Ford Foundation of the US Poultry and Egg Association. This year we had 13 students from June 26-29. The program was planned and conducted by students of the Poultry Science Aggie Leadership Council (formerly Aggie REPS). Participants tour commercial facilities, mix feed, study bird anatomy, process broilers, and basically learn about all aspects of the industry...on a commercial scale. The students also get to experience campus life as a college student by visiting the recreation center, Northgate, the Memorial Student Center, and Sbisa Dining Hall. It is a tremendous experience and many of the students decide to major in Poultry Science.
