Dr. Zhou Receives USDA Research Grant

Dr. Huaijun Zhou, a new Assistant Professor in the Department, has received a grant from the National Research Initiative program at the USDA for $288.076. His project is entitled "Elucidate Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Genetic Control of Campylobacter Colonization in Chickens Using Whole Genome Array" and will explore how the chicken's genomic system responds to challenges by pathogens like Campylobacter. These studies will use a new, whole animal microarray developed by Dr. Zhou and Dr. Zhu in our Department. This microarray can evaluate over 40,000 gene responses from the whole bird. It is a powerful research tool that is gaining widespread use in the poultry genomic community. The success of this funding proposal is particularly notable because this funding program is highly competitive with a success rate near 10%. Congratulations to Dr. Zhou!
