Aggies Travel to Aviagen

Five poultry science undergraduate students traveled to Alabama May 23 through May 27, 2005 to attend the Aviagen Primary Breeder hatchery Workshop. Jessica Butler, Stacy Christian, Joseph Dodds, Neal Eckert, and Daniel Pustejovsky submitted applications and were chosen from a nationwide search that allowed a total of ten students from across the nation to travel and participate in the Workshop. The workshop consisted of lectures by Aviagen employees covering all aspects of primary breeder operation including genetics selection, incubation, biosecurity, and hatchery operations. The workshop also allowed the students to gain hands on experience in operating incubators, processing chicks, and egg break session of unhatched eggs to determine problems. These students gained valuable knowledge that will aid them as they prepare to graduate.
