2012 Poultry Institute for Youth Application - submission deadline is May 4, 2012

The TAMU Poultry Institute for Youth is held on the Texas A&M campus once a year (usually in June).  The purpose of this program is to give high school students with an interest in learning about the poultry industry a chance to gain first hand knowledge.  Participants will have the opportunity to meet Texas A&M staff and Texas poultry industry leaders.  A portion of the institute will also include hands on work with birds and areas of leadership.  Registration is open students who will be enrolled in the fall as high school juniors, seniors or college freshmen.  Registration forms for the next institute will be posted after the first of the year.

Market Poultry Production & Selection Workshop  - June 4, 2011

    Workshop Program

This workshop provides an excellent opportunity for CEAs, agriscience instructors, leaders, parents and youth to “hear the experts” and work alongside Texas’ major poultry judges. Youth interested in a career in poultry science should make a special effort to attend the workshop. Departmental personnel will be available to counsel potential students.  Educational activities include in-depth discussion on brooding, management, sanitation and feeding programs and selection and processing methods for broilers, turkeys and roasters. Discussion on selection procedures and bird quality characteristics will be followed by “hands on” practice in early culling and selecting and “putting together” show pens.
