What is the Poultry Science Club?
The Poultry Science Club is an organization for students interested in the field of poultry science. Most students are majoring or dual-majoring in poultry science and there are both undergraduate and graduate students involved. The Club is active in a variety of service and social activities and has won the national Poultry Science Club of the Year Award from the US Poultry and Egg Association. They visit nursing homes, participate in food drives, sponsor families at Christmas, and many other worthwhile activities. They also enjoy themselves at many social activities such as football tailgate parties, a Halloween costume party, a Christmas party, spring crawfish boil, an awards banquet, and many other informal gatherings. One of their biggest activities is to provide wingbanding services for the major youth poultry shows throughout the year. Each year, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo alone needs over 40,000 chicks to be individually wingbanded in one day. What a big job!
