On Saturday, September 9th and Sunday, September 10th, we supported Harvey Relief Efforts organized by Tyson Foods and the American Egg Board (AEB). Three members of the faculty and 11 students volunteered throughout the weekend to assist with delivering and distributing prepared meals and ready to eat egg or turkey products to hurricane-impacted regions in Southeast Texas. Saturday’s activities consisted of distributing products and supplies for Tyson’s “Meals that Matter” Effort, as well as delivering meals to the hungry in the greater Beaumont area. Sunday’s effort included working directly with National Guard command centers on the western edge of Beaumont to deliver ready to eat meals to affected residents who lost homes to Harvey. In total, it is estimated that our efforts contributed to the feeding of between 6,000 and 10,000 people in need in Southeast Texas. We are extremely appreciative of Tyson Foods and the AEB for allowing us to support their disaster relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
