Numerous Poultry Science students attended the 2018 Poultry Science Association annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas on July 23-26, 2018. Five students were awarded Student Research Paper Certificates of Excellence and seven students were awarded Student Research Certificates of Participation. In addition to these awards, one student was awarded a travel grant and a faculty member was elected to the position of vice-president. Overall, the Poultry Science Department was well represented. Congratulations to all!
STUDENT RESEARCH PAPER CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENCE
These certificates are presented in recognition of students who have presented high-quality research papers at the annual meeting.
Lindy Froebel – Poster presentation – Administration of refined functional carbohydrates with yeast culture improves growth performance and reduces pathogen colonization in broiler chickens. Lindy is a PhD student under the direction of Dr. Tri Duong.
Akhil Alsadwi – Poster Presentation – Effect of dietary silver acetate and antibiotic on broiler performance, apparent ileal digestible energy and total bone mineral content. Akhil is a PhD student under the direction of Dr. Christopher Bailey
Mallori Williams – Oral Presentation – Effects of calcium and phosphorus level in a diet containing phytase on male broiler performance and breast meat yield. Mallori is a PhD student under the direction of Dr. Craig Coufal.

OTHER AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Halei Williams – Jones Hamilton Undergraduate Travel Award. The Jones-Hamilton Co. Undergraduate Student Travel Award is presented to assist poultry science undergraduate students with travel expenses so that they may attend and present their research findings at the annual Poultry Science Association meeting.
Timothy Broderick – Completed a two year term as Student Member of the PSA Board.
Dr. Christine Alvarado was elected to the Vice President’s position.
