POSC Students Win Awards at the 2018 International Poultry Scientific Forum

Four Poultry Science graduate students won awards at the 2018 International Poultry Scientific Forum held in Atlanta, Georgia on January 29-30, 2018.  Brook Bodle, Mallori Lee, and Hunter Walters received Certificates of Achievement awards in recognition of their outstanding research presentations at this annual meeting. Sohini Bhatia Awarded Merck Animal Health Fellowship

Ms. Sohini Bhatia, a Ph.D. student in the Poultry Science Department was chosen as the 2018 Merck Animal Health Graduate Fellow. This prestigious award by the Poultry Science Association supports her Ph.D. dissertation research on using Metabolically Active yet Non-Culturable (MAyNC) state of bacterial cells as a vaccine candidate. Her research is focused on developing a vaccine against necrotic enteritis a major poultry disease caused by Clostridium perfringens. 1972 POSC Graduate, Emanuel Glockzin, receives 2017 Outstanding Alumni Award for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

Emanuel H. Glockzin, Jr., owner of Brazos Valley Construction, received the 2017 Outstanding Alumni Award from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Nov. 10. The award recognizes graduates of the college for outstanding leadership and significant contributions in agriculture, natural resources, life sciences or related areas. Glockzin earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M as a poultry science major in 1972. Poultry Judging Team Wins 2017 National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest

The Texas A&M University Poultry Judging Team traveled to Fayetteville, AR to compete in the 2017 National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest, November 6th and 7th. Eight teams from across the nation competed in the two day competition which was hosted by the University of Arkansas. The contest concluded with Texas A&M winning the 2017 National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest. The team placed first in the Egg Production and Quality and Breed Selection and Carcass Quality. Poultry Science Department Supports Tyson/AEB Harvey Relief Efforts

On Saturday, September 9th and Sunday, September 10th, we supported Harvey Relief Efforts organized by Tyson Foods and the American Egg Board (AEB). Three members of the faculty and 11 students volunteered throughout the weekend to assist with delivering and distributing prepared meals and ready to eat egg or turkey products to hurricane-impacted regions in Southeast Texas. Pilgrim’s Gives $1 Million to Establish the Department of Poultry Science Feed Mill, Industry Education, and Outreach Support Fund

On May 8, 2017, Pilgrim’s donated $1 Million to the Department of Poultry Science to establish the Department of Poultry Science Feed Mill, Industry Education, and Outreach Support fund. This timely gift from Pilgrim’s will allow the Department to modernize its feed mill with commercial industry-relevant equipment, boosting the feed manufacturing capacity by nearly tenfold.  This gift is the most significant in size and scope in the Department’s nearly 100-year history.  The much-needed resources will allow us to improve faculty-led research programs, educational opportunities for students, and outreach… Read More →

Dr. Jason Lee Receives Award at the 2017 Poultry Science Association Annual Meeting

Dr. Jason Lee was presented with the National Chicken Council Broiler Research Award at the 2017 Poultry Science Association Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. This award was given in recognition of his distinctive research work which has had or will have a strong economic impact on the broiler industry.
