Dr. Suresh Pillai has received a grant for a proposal entitled “Ex-Situ Remediation of Investigation-Derived Wastes Containing PFAS by Electron Beam Technology” Summary:   The aquifers underlying many air force bases around the United States are contaminated with per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) such as perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS).  PFAS are present in the fire-fighting foams used for training purposes on many of these air force bases for over three decades. TAMU Poultry Judging Team Wins 2nd Place Overall at the 2018 US Poultry and Egg National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest

The Texas A&M University Poultry Judging Team traveled to Baton Rouge, LA to compete in the 2018 US Poultry and Egg National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest on April 5th and 6th. Teams from across the nation competed in the two day competition which was hosted by the Louisiana State University. Four Poultry Science graduate students won awards at the 2018 International Poultry Scientific Forum held in Atlanta, Georgia on January 29-30, 2018.  Brook Bodle, Mallori Lee, and Hunter Walters received Certificates of Achievement awards in recognition of their outstanding research presentations at this annual meeting. Sohini Bhatia Awarded Merck Animal Health Fellowship

Ms. Sohini Bhatia, a Ph.D. student in the Poultry Science Department was chosen as the 2018 Merck Animal Health Graduate Fellow. This prestigious award by the Poultry Science Association supports her Ph.D. dissertation research on using Metabolically Active yet Non-Culturable (MAyNC) state of bacterial cells as a vaccine candidate. Her research is focused on developing a vaccine against necrotic enteritis a major poultry disease caused by Clostridium perfringens.
