Poultry Judging Team Wins 2014 National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest

The Texas A&M University Poultry Judging Team traveled to Fayetteville, AR to compete in the 2014 National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest on November 3th and 4thth. Seven teams from across the nation competed in the two day competition which was hosted by the University of Arkansas. National Center for Electron Beam Research Designated as an IAEA Collaborating Center

The National Center for Electron Beam Research was formally designated as an IAEA Collaborating Center for Electron Beam technologies for food, health and environment. The event was marked by a plaque dedication ceremony that involved H.E. Ambassador Yukia Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) handing over the plaque to Dr. Suresh Pillai, Director of the eBeam Center. Dr. Suresh Pillai Awarded Grant

Dr. Suresh Pillai was awarded a grant of $242,902 from the Texas A&M AgriLife Water Seed Grant Program for the research project “Significant Expansion of Water Reuse using Electron Beam (eBeam) Technology.  Co-PIs for this grant include Bill Batchelor (Civil Engineering) and Yongheng Huang (Biological and Agricultural Engineering).  Electron beam (eBeam) technology is the most inexpensive approach of rapidly generating high concentrations of free radicals. HLSR Show Broiler Chick Order Distribution

  HLSR Show broiler chicks will be distributed Tuesday, January 28th as originally planned. In the event that adverse weather creates a road icing problem and pick up for some counties is delayed, we will hold the chicks in a climate controlled environment ,overnight for pick up on the following day, ( Wednesday, Jan 29th). This extra day, if necessary, will have no detrimental effects on chick livability and performance provided they are transported properly.

Dr. David Caldwell Named Poultry Science Department Head

Congratulations to Dr. David J. Caldwell who has been approved as the new department head of poultry science. Dr. Caldwell has served as a faculty member in the department for more than 15 years in both research and teaching roles and an emphasis on industry outreach. Dr. Caldwell is a Texas A&M University graduate, receiving his bachelor’s degree in poultry science, then a M.S. and Ph.D. in veterinary microbiology. Students Complete 2013 Summer Internships With Sanderson Farms

Six Poultry Science undergraduates successfully completed internships with Sanderson Farms this summer.  The Sanderson Farms Summer Internship Program is a 10-week program which places students in one of three areas: Live Production, Processing or Foods Division.  Students selected for Live Production receive hands-on training in all aspects of live production: pullets, hens, broilers, hatchery, feed mill and live haul.  In the procession division, students receive hands-on training in all aspects of poultry processing: live receiving, picking, eviscerating, ice pack, chill pack, cut-up, debone, shipping and sanitation.  In the… Read More →
