The USPOULTRY Harold E. Ford Foundation and Tyson Foods have awarded a grant in the amount of $34,766 to the TAMU Poultry Science Department. This grant will support the Poultry Science department efforts to continue to recruit, retain, and graduate the best and brightest students for long-term contributions to the commercial and allied industries.
The Poultry Science department graduated one M.Agr. and twenty BS students during the Spring 2016 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences commencement ceremony held on May 13th. Congratulations to all!
Dr. Luc Berghman was recognized for his accomplishments during the 2016 Patent and Innovations Award Luncheon which was held on Thursday, April 4, 2016. This event was put on by the Texas A&M University System Office of Technology Commercialization and spotlights the patents and PVP’s issued to TAMU faculty during 2015. The Texas A&M University Poultry Judging Team traveled to Baton Rouge, LA to compete in the 2016 US Poultry and Egg National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest on April 7th and 8th. Eleven teams from across the nation competed in the two day competition which was hosted by the Louisiana State University. The contest concluded with Texas A&M winning the overall team competition. The Poultry Science Association Foundation (PSA Foundation) was pleased to announce the Award of the Inaugural Ph.D. Fellowship from Merck Animal Health during the International Production and Processing Expo in Atlanta, GA. Merck Animal Health’s generous gift will support the Poultry Research Fellowship of Ms. Emily Kimminau in the Poultry Science Department of Texas A&M University. (Merck Animal Health Fellowships). Dr. Suresh Pillai, Professor and TAES Faculty Fellow in the Departments of Poultry Science and Nutrition and Food Science, received funding from the USDA Formula Animal Health program administered but eh TAMU College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Pillai’s proposal, entitled “Metabolically Active, Non-Culturable Clostridium perfingens Cocktails to control Necrotic Enteritis in Broilers”, received $48,221 in funding for the proposed two year project. Dr. Berghman’s proposal, entitled “An Antibody-Guided Coccidiosis Vaccine: Harnessing Cell-Mediated Immunity Through CD40 Signaling” received $59,079 in funding for the proposed two year project. Morouj Al-Ajeeli, Rocky Latham, and Cody Flores received Certificates of Achievement awards at the 2016 International Poultry Scientific Forum January 25-26 in Atlanta, Georgia. These awards were presented to these students in recognition of their outstanding research presentations at this annual meeting. 2015 PSA Award Winners CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Poultry Science Association Tri Duong, Ph.D. – Hy-Line International Research Award – This award is given to a member who, in the preceding calendar year, as sole or senior author, published outstanding research in poultry science.
