The Aggie Leadership Council (2014-2015 Cohort) traveled to Washington DC in April for a leadership development workshop to gain insight into agricultural policy and the legislative process. During this workshop the ALC and Drs. Christine Alvarado and Craig Coufal met with the National Chicken Council, National Turkey Federation, USDA-Ag Marketing Service, and the Honorable Bill Flores (US Representative). The Texas A&M University Poultry Judging Team traveled to Baton Rouge, LA to compete in the 2015 US Poultry and Egg National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest on April 16th and 17th. Nine teams from across the nation competed in the two day competition which was hosted by the Louisiana State University. The contest concluded with Texas A&M winning the overall team competition. Tucker Allcorn and Hunter Walters received Student Research Paper Certificates of Excellence for presenting high-quality research papers at the 2015 International Production and Processing Exposition Annual Meeting held in Atlanta, Georgia on January 26th -29th, 2015. Both presentations were submitted in the Nutrition and Metabolism section and involved the use of various enzymes on broiler performance. The article, “Maintaining the Standard: Keeping Chickens Cheap While Protecting the Environment” was recently published by Tara Hale from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in the College News section. The Jones-Hamilton Company has established a fund in the Poultry Science Department in Dr. Carey’s name to support research and other faculty endeavors overseen by him. The Dr. John Carey Excellence Fund represents a $50,000 donation to the Department in Dr. Carey’s name. Congratulations to Dr. Carey on this very prestigious honor!

The National Center for Electron Beam Research was formally designated as an IAEA Collaborating Center for Electron Beam technologies for food, health and environment. The event was marked by a plaque dedication ceremony that involved H.E. Ambassador Yukia Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) handing over the plaque to Dr. Suresh Pillai, Director of the eBeam Center.
