Mr. Monroe H. Fuchs ’56 Selected as a Recipient of the 2013 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Outstanding Alumni Award
Mr. Monroe H. Fuchs ’56 has been selected as a recipient of the 2013 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Outstanding Alumni. Established in 1992, the Outstanding Alumni Award recognizes graduates who distinguish themselves by reaching a significant level of accomplishment in their careers and who possess the highest standards of integrity and character which bring honor to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University. Six Poultry Science undergraduates successfully completed internships with Sanderson Farms this summer. The Sanderson Farms Summer Internship Program is a 10-week program which places students in one of three areas: Live Production, Processing or Foods Division. Students selected for Live Production receive hands-on training in all aspects of live production: pullets, hens, broilers, hatchery, feed mill and live haul. In the procession division, students receive hands-on training in all aspects of poultry processing: live receiving, picking, eviscerating, ice pack, chill pack, cut-up, debone, shipping and sanitation. At the recent Texas Poultry Federation Convention held in San Antonio, live and silent scholarship auctions organized by the Texas Allied Poultry Association raised a record $32,500 for undergraduate scholarships. A total of 10 undergraduate students from our department serving in the Aggie Leadership Council were on hand to assist with the auctions. The funds raised will be used to provide scholarships for undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Poultry Science at Texas A&M University and Stephen F. Austin State University. TUCKER, GA– Texas A&M University recently won the 66th U.S. Poultry & Egg Association National Poultry Judging Contest, held at Louisiana State University. This is their sixth consecutive win, having won first place at the event every year since 2008. Additionally, Michael Clay, a junior at Texas A&M, was announced high individual winner. The Kansas State University team placed a close second in the team competition, with William Trieb, sophomore, finishing second in the individual category. The Texas A&M University Poultry Judging Team traveled to Fayetteville, AR from November 4th to 7th to compete in the National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest hosted by the University of Arkansas. Ten teams from across the nation competed in the two day competition. The contest concluded with Texas A&M winning its thirteenth national championship in the last fourteen competitions dating back to April 2006.
